Week 12: Final Brush project

Craft: I made these by turning on several layers and just stamping in random places to see how they looked.  The only steps that were really necessary were making the stamps that were explained in my last blog and then transferring them to a new project.  In the new project they were put in several layers and mixed between a red and orange hue.  From there layers were turned on and off to make the project.

Composition:  For the most part the arrangement just kind of came on its own.  In the first one I wanted to cluster several forms of communication into one piece so that they could be all shown at once.  In the second one I showed how one message can be shown across several different communication methods.  The third had to do strictly with radio communication and the final one was how with too much communication methods the message slowly disappears and it becomes all noise.

Concept:  The photos are all of some form of communication.  I'm trying to show how different communicational methods can either have positive or negative messages whether in the 1st one where we have tons of methods of communicating to the fourth where too many ways just turn things into noise.

Week 11: Drawing stamps

Craft:  The first thing I did was open up photoshop.  I then selected 10 pictures that I liked off the internet and traced over them.  From there I turned them into brushes. Once they had been traced and turned into brushes I was able to use them as stamps for future work.

Composition:  I arrange these pictures really in any order, I just wanted to be able to show the stamps that I had made for the project.  I had put the larger ones towards the bottom and let the smaller ones sit at the top so that you'd read the photo from a different perspective than top to bottom.

Concept:  The stamps have a computer, peace sign, walkie talkies, a telephone sign, a television, a radio tower, a telephone, a microphone, two people speaking, a radio, and a written signature.  They're all on here because of the fact that they are all forms of communication in one way or another.

Week 10: Final Radio Digital Draft

Craft: I first started by opening up photoshop and using a former sketch I had drawn up.  I first created all the rectangular shapes by using the rectangular tool in different layers.  After they were made I took the elliptical option and made all of the circles that I needed for the project.  I made each in a new layer and once all were created I then focused on using a paint brush to create the objects that didn't fall under the rectangle or elliptical tools.  After that was created I took the paint bucket tool and dumped paint into the different layers and shapes so I could properly get the colors I wanted.  After that, I finally went through and used all of the bevel and emboss fx's to create the desired look I wanted with my shapes.

Composition:  I arranged the photo first by making the two radios the largest thing in the photo.  I wanted to do this so that the viewer's eye will be drawn to the radios that are both happy and sad.  From there I made the door stand out to show the way for the people to escape from the bad radio and make it to the good radio.  I then chose to use a green color because it seemed inviting while I used blue for the sad radio for sadness.

Concept:  The picture is of people hating ordinary radio and escaping from it by going through the door and dancing to the good radios music.  It's to help show a way to escape from ordinary radio.

Week 9: First radio digital draft

Craft:  I first took an image and scanned it onto the computer.  After I scanned it I began to take the box tool in photo shop and created to squares and dropped brown paint into them.  After I dropped the paint into them I made the circles for the speakers.  I used the elliptical tool to create the bigger speakers and then the smaller ones inside them.  After I created those I took the rectangular tool again and used them to make the eye brows and tuner box on top of the radios.  After that I used the lasso tool in order to create the mouths of the radios.  Finally I took the rectangular tool to create a wall between the two radios.  I finally dumped the paint that is seen in all the pictures in order to give it the color I wanted.  I ended the process by choosing the bevel and emboss fx on all the layers to give them more definition.

Composition: I separated the two radios to show the differences between the two.  The one is angry and shows how ordinary radio doesn't keep people happy anymore and on the other side I have a happy radio that shows how people are happy with change and new music.  I'm controlling the viewers eyes by using the radios towards the top and making them the biggest thing in the picture.

Concept:  The picture is of two radios that have been personified.  The personified radios show the difference between the music being played.  The happy radio shows new music being played and its an escape from the angry radio that is playing music that nobody wants to hear.

Week 8: Final draft sketch

Craft: I made this picture using pen to paper.  There were not many steps that went with it.  I simply came up with the idea of two radios performing and then drew what I envisioned.

Composition: I drew the picture the way it did so that you can clearly tell which radio is good and which is bad.  On the top part is the angry radio that plays the same tunes over and over which leaves the listeners upset and wanting to escape.  On the divider a door was added so that they can go through and escape the noise.  On the other side is a happy looking radio that provides music that people actually want to listen to. I drew both radios large so that the viewer has to look at them first and see the faces on them.

Concept:  The picture is of two radios playing music to an audience.  The one is "ordinary radio" and plays music that no one wants to hear.  The other is happy and playing music that everyone wants to listen to.  I'm trying to portray that ordinary radio is not fun to listen to while escaping from it to a new station can give you music worth listening and dancing to.

Week 7: First draft sketches

Craft:  I made this picture by taking pen to unlined paper.  There were not to many necessary steps needed outside the idea to draw and then being able to draw the idea onto the paper

Composition:  I drew the two pictures in two particular ways.  In the first picture I drew a sad radio getting punched by a new muscular one.  I chose to draw it like this because I wanted to show ordinary radio getting knocked out of the way by a new and stronger radio.  In the other image I drew two different worlds in which the radios live.  On the one side I have original radio in a rainy and sad environment because I wanted to show that ordinary radio has been dreary and sad.  On the other side I have a happy radio with a sunny sky and everything is happy.  I did this so that it can show a clear escape from ordinary radio.

Concept: In both pictures the central focus is the radio.  The two radios are being compared as opposites because of the fact that one is terrible and needs to be taken away from the new radio which brings good music to all.  I wanted to be able to show that old radio is sad and that new radio trumps it either with happiness or with strength.
